Episode 2: Why Narcissists Cry Over Spilled Champagne (Inspired by Don’t Sleep With Him Yet: A Badass Guide to Dating in 10 Empowering Steps)

Here’s what happened last night on Episode 2 of Peter Weber’s season: contestant Kelsey Weir (a former Miss Iowa) brought a bottle of champagne from home that she’d apparently received as a gift and saved since her birthday a year ago for a special occasion. She then set it out to drink with Peter during the pre-rose ceremony cocktail party. All hell broke loose, however, when she realized that Peter and Hannah Ann, who claims she didn’t know the bottle was Kelsey’s, popped the cork together. On the tail end of her tearful meltdown, Kelsey went into a rage, confronting and repeatedly calling Hannah Ann both a “bitch” and a “snake,” which ironically mostly just served to reveal a not-so-beautiful side of this beauty pageant competitor’s own character.

DO take responsibility when things go wrong. This whole incident could have been avoided had Kelsey attached a conspicuous note to the champagne bottle, i.e., “Kelsey’s Birthday Bottle: DO NOT DRINK.” However, instead of owning up to this, she attacked Hannah Ann instead. That’s what narcissists do when things don’t go their way, they blame everybody else but themselves. Incidentally, I believe Hannah Ann when she said she didn’t know the bottle was Kelsey’s, not just because champagne bottles appear to be fixtures on The Bachelor, but because Hannah Ann’s eyes weren’t lying. How can I tell? You’ll have to read my book to find out. ;)
