The REAL Deal: Dr. Lee’s 'Bachelor' Dating DO’s and DON’Ts

Episode 4: Who’s the Real Fake? (Hint: It’s not Alayah) (Inspired by Don’t Sleep With Him Yet: A Badass Guide to Dating in 10 Empowering Steps)

PETER, LISTEN UP: DO NOT pay much attention when women you’re dating trash talk another woman you’re dating—who happens to be drop-dead gorgeous. At the very least consider their motives, as in they feel threatened. On this week's episode of Peter Weber’s season of The Bachelor, Sydney told Peter that Alayah (Miss Texas 2019) was “fake” because her voice “goes up a few octaves” and she “acts different[ly]” when cameras are rolling. (Note to Sydney: you might try to crack a smile yourself, and psychologically many people truly do have a different camera “persona,” which doesn’t necessarily mean they are “fake.”) Although I found Alayah’s super saccharine, early-in-the-episode camera demeanor annoying, it actually was consistent with her beauty pageant background, meaning she was being who she is. However, instead of forming his own opinion, Peter doubled down and asked other women what they thought of Alayah. (That’s like asking a candidate running for office if you should vote for their competitor.) Sure enough, some of the contestants didn’t miss a beat in putting Alayah down to Peter—but only behind her back, of course. The prize for backstabbing, however, goes to nurse Victoria P., who told Peter that Alayah asked her to “lie” by not disclosing to producers that she and Alayah knew one another prior to coming on the show, and also that Alayah had mentioned post-show “opportunities” even if she doesn’t end up as Mrs. Weber. Given Alayah’s subsequent explanation about her fear of their both being disqualified because she and Victoria (Miss Louisiana 2019) had previously crossed paths at a Miss USA pageant, one can assume that Victoria took Alayah’s remarks out of context. And as for milking post-show opportunities, Peter need only look to his beloved Hannah Brown. WORST HOUSE FAKER: Victoria F.

FOR ALL WOMEN: DO step out of your comfort zone and try new activities when you’re looking for men to date. In this week’s episode, Peter and Victoria F. went line dancing at The Canyon, a music venue in his Agoura Hills hometown. Notably, Peter says that he and his friends (presumably guys) go there every Wednesday night! (The Canyon offers country/line dancing, including lessons, Wednesday nights.) So if you’re a hot LA woman who has paid attention to my book, which lists line dancing as one of SEVERAL SPECIFIC WAYS TO MEET MEN, you may very well already have had a chance with Peter or a friend of his. Not an Angeleno, but you still want to find a guy like Peter? Not to worry: Step 4 of Don’t Sleep With Him Yet offers lots of suggestions for any woman no matter where she lives. Comfort zone or not, it’s also crucial to simply step out and give blind luck a chance: note that frontrunner Kelly met Peter completely randomly pre-show taping at a hotel where both were attending separate events. (Peter had the good fortune to wander into the lobby at exactly the same time as the attractive attorney, who was there for a friend’s wedding.) That serendipitous meeting was responsible for Kelly’s subsequent participation in the show, where she presently provides a refreshing change of pace. MEMO to ABC: Most guys’ “reality” does not include simultaneously dating multiple beauty pageant queens. Just sayin’. ;)
